From GDVEC to USA — Sai Sreenivas’s Study Abroad Journey from Gudlavalleru

Not every student walks into a study abroad consultancy from a well-known city college. Sai Sreenivas came to us from Gudlavalleru Engineering College (GDVEC) — a respected autonomous college in Gudlavalleru, Krishna district, about 45 kilometres from Vijayawada. He had a question that we hear often from students from smaller colleges: “Will a US university even look at my application?”

The answer, as Sai Sreenivas discovered, is yes — if you approach it the right way.

GDVEC and US University Admissions — What You Need to Know

Gudlavalleru Engineering College is one of the better-known engineering colleges in Krishna district, affiliated to JNTUK. Its graduates have secured admissions to US, UK, and Australian universities — but many students from GDVEC and similar colleges in the Krishna-Guntur corridor are not aware of this.

US universities evaluate international students on three factors: academic performance, standardised test scores (GRE), and English proficiency (IELTS/TOEFL). Your college’s ranking matters less than your individual scores and the strength of your application documents. This is genuinely good news for students from GDVEC, PVPSIT, Dhanekula, or any college outside the top-tier institutions.

Sai Sreenivas’s Profile

When Sai Sreenivas first visited our office on MG Road, Kanuru, Vijayawada, he had:

  • CGPA of 7.4 from GDVEC in Electronics and Communication Engineering
  • No GRE score yet
  • Some project experience but no internship
  • Family support for education loan
  • Target: Master’s in Electrical Engineering or Embedded Systems in the USA

His profile was realistic — not exceptional, not weak. The path to the USA for a student like Sai Sreenivas required the right university list and a strong application.

Step 1 — GRE Preparation

Sai Sreenivas prepared for GRE over two and a half months, attending our GRE coaching sessions in Vijayawada alongside self-study. His target was 305+ — enough to qualify for a good range of mid-tier US universities in his field.

He scored 308 on his first attempt — Quant 160, Verbal 148. A solid score for his target universities.

He also cleared IELTS with 6.5 overall — completing both test requirements within three months of starting preparation.

Step 2 — Building the Right University List

For a GDVEC graduate with a CGPA of 7.4 and GRE 308, the university list needed to be realistic. We recommended three tiers:

  • Match universities: University of Central Missouri, Lamar University, Wichita State University
  • Safe universities: Eastern New Mexico University, University of Bridgeport

The key insight for GDVEC and similar college graduates: tier matters less than fit. A mid-tier US university with strong Electrical Engineering faculty and a high visa approval rate is a better choice than a reach school with a low acceptance probability. Sai Sreenivas received multiple offers and accepted Gannon University in Erie, Pennsylvania — a well-regarded university with a strong engineering programme and solid visa approval track record for Indian students.

Step 3 — SOP and Documentation

The Statement of Purpose (SOP) was where Sai Sreenivas’s application needed the most work. With a profile that didn’t stand out on paper, the SOP had to tell a compelling story about why he chose ECE, what he had built and learned at GDVEC, and how a US Master’s programme connected to a concrete career goal.

We worked through three drafts, each one more specific and less generic than the last. The final SOP highlighted his final year project on embedded systems, a specific research interest, and a clear post-graduation plan — to return to India and work in the semiconductor or defence electronics sector.

That last point — the return plan — is also critical for the F1 visa interview.

Step 4 — Education Loan from Gudlavalleru

One practical challenge for students from smaller towns like Gudlavalleru: education loan documentation. The family property, income documents, and co-applicant details all needed to be in order before approaching lenders.

We guided the family through the education loan process, comparing options from Avanse and Auxilo — both of which have flexible criteria for students from smaller colleges. The loan was sanctioned for ₹28 lakhs, covering two years of tuition and living expenses.

Step 5 — F1 Visa Interview at Hyderabad Consulate

The US Consulate in Hyderabad is the nearest visa centre for students from the Krishna-Guntur corridor. Sai Sreenivas attended our free F1 visa mock interview at our Vijayawada office before his real appointment.

His actual interview lasted about five minutes. The officer asked about his programme, his family background in Gudlavalleru, and his funding. His loan documentation was clear, his answers were direct, and his visa was approved.

“The mock interview at Study2Migrate made the real interview feel easy. I already knew which questions to expect and how to answer them without sounding rehearsed.” — Sai Sreenivas, GDVEC 2024 graduate

For Students from GDVEC, PVPSIT, and Krishna District Colleges

The most important message for students from Gudlavalleru, Eluru, Machilipatnam, and the wider Krishna district: the distance from Vijayawada does not affect your study abroad chances.

We work with students from across the Krishna-Guntur corridor — and the process is exactly the same whether you come to our office or reach us on WhatsApp first.

  • GDVEC, PVPSIT, Dhanekula, Usha Rama, MIC College — all these profiles have resulted in successful US, UK, and Australia placements
  • What matters: CGPA, GRE/IELTS score, and a well-written SOP
  • Distance: our office is at MG Road, Kanuru, Vijayawada — accessible by road from Gudlavalleru in under an hour
